Renmin University of China 2023 International Summer School Scholarships
General Information
The Renmin University International Summer School Scholarship will take place in Beijing, China, from July 3 to July 21, 2023. The program serves as a training and enhancement platform in various areas of Mandarin language knowledge and Chinese culture. Organized by the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and Renmin University of China (RUC), it aims to provide opportunities for 20 active students from the Confucius Institute of the University of Costa Rica, aged 18 to 30, who are interested in a cultural exchange experience and improving their Mandarin proficiency.
Camp Dates:** July 3 to July 21, 2023
Program Description:
- 2 courses in the following 4 areas: China Studies, university-level courses on economics, politics, sociology, humanities, sciences, engineering, and administration, and Chinese language courses (mandatory) are included in the areas.
- Opportunities to visit different sites in the city of Beijing.
- Traditional Chinese arts (already included).
- Courses are taught by both Chinese and international professors to students from various countries.
Fees and Refund
- Registration Fee:
- Registration fee is 800 RMB.
2. Tuition:
- Tuition varies based on the online application time. It is 11,000 RMB in April and 12,000 RMB in May.
3.Course Fee:
- Tuition covers two courses. An additional course requires an extra 2000 RMB.
4. Course Schedule:
- Courses are usually conducted from 8:00 to 11:30 or from 14:00 to 17:30 or from 18:00 to 21:30 (GMT+8) with one class every two days. 8 classes (16 classes for language courses) in total for each course.

Application Calendar
- April 7 to 15: Confucius Institute students complete online registration. The Confucius Institute will provide the final list of student applications (the sooner, the better). Early registration favors course and accommodation selection. Course size and accommodation are limited; registering late may result in not being able to choose preferred courses and rooms.
- May: Confucius Institutes receive admission notices and visa application forms.
Scholarship Includes:
- Exemption from 2 courses (one must be a Chinese teaching course).
- Accommodation in a double room (shared). If a single room is desired, the price difference must be paid.
Not Included:
- Daily expenses (understood as food, internal transportation, and visits to tourist attractions).
- Renmin University registration fee of 800 RMB.
- Airfare.
- Visa and passport costs.
CLEC Campus Scholarship
The Confucius Institute Affairs Office will assist in applying for the CLEC Campus Scholarship Program. If successful, the scholarship will cover future students' registration fees (2 courses) and accommodation at Renmin (shared double room). The CLEC reviews this scholarship and decides on admission results.
Requirements
- Non-Chinese citizens.
- Ages: 18-30 years (inclusive), enrolled students at the Confucius Institute of the University of Costa Rica.
- Chinese learning class hours: more than 40 hours or HSK results.
- Not have participated in Hanban's China summer camp project in the last 3 years.
Attention:
1. All students recommended by the Confucius Institute and the host CI University must complete Form 1. Students applying for CLEC summer scholarships must also complete Form 2. Forms are sent by email to ci_ruc@163.com. (Provide Form 2 for scholarship application as soon as possible before April 15, so we can send the application materials to CLEC as soon as possible).
2. Students are advised to purchase insurance independently to ensure good health and personal safety during their stay in China.
3. Students participating in the International Summer School (ISS) must take the HSK test organized by Hanban. This exam is only used to test study results in China, an informal HSK test. Test scores cannot be used for applications such as Hanban scholarships.
4. Choose up to 2 courses per student, and 1 course must be a Chinese language course. More than 2 courses incur their own costs according to the International Summer School fees.
5. Selection and Communication
Selected students will be notified by phone and email. This scholarship is personal and non-transferable. Acceptance of the scholarship automatically implies acceptance of all its conditions.
