Guide for Applying for Confucius Institute Scholarships 2023

 

With the aim of cultivating highly qualified teachers in the field of Chinese language education and promoting the global dissemination of the Chinese language and culture, the International Cooperation Center for Language Teaching under the Ministry of Education (hereinafter referred to as "the Center") continues to offer Scholarships for the Training of Chinese Language Teachers (hereinafter referred to as "scholarships"). Confucius Institutes, independent Confucius Classrooms, and certain Chinese exam centers, as well as Chinese language faculties in universities, local Chinese teaching organizations, and Chinese diplomatic missions abroad, etc. (hereinafter referred to as "recommending institutions"), are eligible to recommend students and practicing Chinese teachers for studies in International Chinese Teaching or related specialties at Chinese universities (hereinafter referred to as "host universities" or "host centers").

 

Requirements for Applicants

 

1. Hold citizenship other than that of the People's Republic of China.

2. Be in good physical and mental health, and stand out for both good conduct and a positive attitude towards studies.

3. Be interested in didactics, teaching, and the international promotion of the Chinese language.

4. Not have participated previously in the RUC International Summer School.

5. Be between 16 and 35 years old (completed before September 1, 2023). If the applicant is a practicing Chinese teacher, the maximum age to apply for the scholarship is 45 years. Regarding the scholarship for undergraduate studies, the age must be below 25 years, generally.

6. Submit certification proving active enrollment at the Confucius Institute of the University of Costa Rica (IC-UCR) during 2023. (This scholarship is exclusive to Institute students with at least 2 approved courses). Certification can be requested at the IC-UCR reception.

7. Submit a letter of intent at the Confucius Institute reception addressed to Dr. Kuok Wa Chao Chao, director of the Confucius Institute at UCR, stating the reasons they believe they should be recipients of one of the Confucius Institutes' scholarships.

8. Submit a copy of the HSK and HSKK test certifications if necessary. Please note that exam certificates are valid for two years.

9. Submit a photocopy of the first page of the passport. Applicants under 18 must provide relevant documents from legal guardians in China. Note: Please consider the passport expiration date, which should be 6 months after the planned return date from China.

10. Submit a printed application to the required scholarship program, available on the website: [http://cis.chinese.cn/account/login](http://cis.chinese.cn/account/login). The applicant must create an account on this site and upload the required documents.

11. Finally, at the Institute, complete a form with personal data. Please verify that the information is correct and sign below to confirm.

 

Application Procedures

 

Starting from March 1, 2023, applicants must register on the official website of the Scholarships for the Training of Chinese Language Teachers to submit the application. Link: [http://cis.chinese.cn/](http://cis.chinese.cn/)

 

Steps to Follow:

 

1. Register on the official Scholarships website, where information about recommending institutions and host centers can be found.

2. Fill out and submit the online application documents, follow the application process, and pay attention to suggestions and the final evaluation result.

3. Applicants who receive scholarships must confirm and complete the admission procedures with the host center, process the study visa for China, and download and print the scholarship acquisition certificate online.

4. Enroll in the host university within the deadline indicated in the admission letter issued by the host center.

 

Application Deadline (Beijing Time):

 

- If the course starts in July 2023 - deadline for submitting the application: April 15, 2023; deadline for reviewing documents by recommending institutions and host centers: April 25, 2023.

- If the course starts in September 2023 - deadline for submitting the application: May 15, 2023; deadline for reviewing documents by recommending institutions and host centers: May 25, 2023.

- If the course starts in December 2023 - deadline for submitting the application: September 15, 2023; deadline for reviewing documents by recommending institutions and host centers: September 25, 2023.

- If the course starts in March 2023 - deadline for submitting the application: November 15, 2023; deadline for reviewing documents by recommending institutions and host centers: November 25, 2023.

 

Note: The Center will assign specialists to evaluate the applications, considering HSK, HSKK scores, and nationality, and will decide which ones are deserving of financial support. The evaluation process will be completed, and the results will be published three months before the start of the course.
