San José, Costa Rica. On Friday, November 3rd, the Confucius Institute at the University of Costa Rica welcomed a visit from an international mission of the Foreign Affairs Delegation of the National People's Congress (NPC) with the support of the Office of International Affairs of the University of Costa Rica (OAICE).
The meeting was chaired by the Vice-Rector for Social Action of the University of Costa Rica, Mrs. Patricia Quesada Villalobos, alongside the Director and Co-Director of the Confucius Institute, Mr. Kuok Wa Chao Chao and Mrs. Mai Qiulin, respectively.
The Chinese delegation was led by Mr. Wang Chao, a member of the Standing Committee of the NPC and Vice-President of the NPC's Foreign Affairs Committee. He was accompanied by Mrs. Zhou Min, also a member of the Standing Committee of the NPC and member of the NPC's Foreign Affairs Committee, and Mr. Qi Luijiang, Deputy Director-General of the International Exchange Office of the NPC's Foreign Affairs Committee.
The visit aimed to explore academic cooperation possibilities between China and the University of Costa Rica, particularly in the fields of education and culture. For this purpose, teachers from the CLEC Foundation exchange program and students from China currently on exchange at the University of Costa Rica also attended the official welcome event held at the Confucius Institute building. It was a meeting that reaffirmed a shared commitment to service, engaging in open dialogue with the Institute staff accompanying the delegation.
Finally, the Chinese delegation was invited to tour the UCR campus and some of its faculties. It is noteworthy that the visiting delegation also held meetings with other institutions, such as the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica.
It is reminded that the Confucius Institute (IC-UCR) is a public institution formed by the University of Costa Rica, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), and the China Foundation for International Education (CIEF), in collaboration with Renmin University of China (RUC); its main focuses are the dissemination of the Mandarin language and Chinese culture; moreover, social action is also a fundamental part of the Institute's work.
