The Latin American Association of Asian and African Studies (ALADAA)
Costa Rica Chapter
Second call to the XVIII ALADAA International Congress
Which will take place at the University of Costa Rica (Rodrigo Facio campus) and the Universidad Latina (San Pedro campus) in San José, Costa Rica between November 20 and 24, 2023
Asia and Africa and their contemporary challenges in the globalized world
JUSTIFICATION
The era of globalization, which has already been widely discussed, has generated significant transformations in contemporary societies. The dimensions of the challenges are planetary, but the way in which they impact various societies has characteristics that differentiate them from each other. The mobilization of capital, international migrations, climate challenges, are some of the aspects that are reflected in this complex process.
We have almost reached the first quarter of the 21st century, so the discourse can no longer refer to what the century may bring, with all the uncertainty that that meant at the end of the 20th century. Therefore, the call to discuss the challenges must be considered based on the conditions that the world presents in the 21st century, as has been seen with what happened, for example, with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The XVIII International Congress of ALADAA, to be held in San José Costa Rica between November 20 and 24, 2023, will be the ideal setting for the scientific, artistic, diplomatic, business community and the general public to have the stage to delve deeper in explaining the challenges that the 21st century has brought to Asian and African societies, as well as their diasporas. In this way, the Congress will allow us to discuss as a community that focuses its interest on the societies of both continents.
ABOUT ALADAA
The Latin American Association of Asian and African Studies (ALADAA) was created in 1976 during the celebration of the XXX International Congress of Human Sciences of Asia and North Africa held at the Center for Asian and African Studies (CEAA) of El Colegio from Mexico. Since then, the Association has spread throughout much of Latin America and currently has national chapters in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, with chapters in training in Paraguay, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
The objectives of ALADAA are:
- Exchange academic experiences among its members.
- Collaborate with higher education centers in Latin America for the training of teaching staff and researchers.
- Exchange information.
- Disseminate studies on ancient and modern Asia and Africa and in general everything that contributes to the knowledge of Asia and Africa in Latin America.
Thus, the Association brings together graduates, students, teachers, researchers and those interested in the topics addressed.
OBJECTIVES OF THE CONGRESS
- Provide spaces for dialogue and exchange of ideas around Asian and African studies among members of the national chapters of ALADAA.
- Generate spaces for conversation between academia and the public and productive sector in favor of advancing the relationship between Latin America and the Caribbean with States and continental associations of Africa and Asia.
- Strengthen knowledge networks and collaborative exchange between ALADAA academics and students interested in Latin America on topics linked to Asia and Africa.
- Build bridges of dialogue between diverse fields of knowledge, as well as fields of artistic production that take Asian and African societies and their diasporas as one of their spaces of interest.
CONGRESS DYNAMICS
