The exhibitions for this period are a "Tribute to Hilda Chen" and the "Sesquicentennial of the Second Wave of Chinese Migration to Costa Rica."

San José, Costa Rica. On Tuesday, November 14th, the esteemed National Library of Costa Rica hosted a delegation from the Confucius Institute for a paper-cutting workshop as part of the exhibitions “Tribute to Master Hilda Chen Apuy” and "Sesquicentennial of the Second Wave of Chinese Migration to Costa Rica: From Coolies to Overseas Chinese, Between Transnationalism and Localisms," both open to the public for the month of November 2023.
“Tribute to Hilda Chen Apuy”
The exhibition "Tribute to Hilda Chen Apuy" was inaugurated on November 6th by Dr. Manuel Araya Incera, President of the Academy of Geography and History of Costa Rica and curator of the exhibition. According to Laura Rodríguez Amador, director of the National Library of Costa Rica: “It is an exhibition full of history with a great legacy that reflects the affection and admiration for the great meritorious teacher.”
"Sesquicentennial of the Second Wave of Chinese Migration to Costa Rica: From Coolies to Overseas Chinese, Between Transnationalism and Localisms"
The exhibition "Sesquicentennial of the Second Wave of Chinese Migration to Costa Rica: From Coolies to Overseas Chinese, Between Transnationalism and Localisms" was inaugurated on November 13th by Dr. Ronald Soto Quirós and Dr. Lai Sai Acón Chan. The inaugural conference focused on three themes: the global system of Chinese coolies and forced labor migration; second, Costa Rica's attempts to bring coolie workers; and finally, a review of what happened in 1873 with the second wave of Chinese migration in Costa Rica.
On this day, Dr. Acón took the opportunity to present a copy of her book “Portrait of Chinese Migrations to Costa Rica, 1855 -1975” to Ms. Rodríguez to be included in the Library's collection and accessible to the Costa Rican public.
Both exhibitions are located at the National Library and will conclude on November 30th, open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more details, you can contact: bibliotecanacional@sinabi.go.cr, phone: 2257-4814.
